The view from Meat Cove Mountain, at the tip of Cape Breton, and outside the national park. You can see the tiny town of Meat Cove and the campground around the shore. The two hikes here were among the most rewarding of the trip. The top of Meat Cove Mountain was only an hour’s hike from the camp ground, but it was a relentless (and for us quite treacherous) climb up a dark, muddy, steep and slippery creek valley – a contrast to the “improved ” and almost sidewalk-like trails of the national park. We should have taken walking poles! The freshest air imaginable, and a rewarding view was at the top. Two more pictures follow.
