A beautiful Great Blue Heron fishing a few evenings ago. This one was especially thrilling because I spotted him first and was able to keep my distance so that he kept fishing as I floated by. Interestingly there was a group of 4 mergansers a few feet away from the heron, but they predictably DID swim away. (Do herons and mergansers usually hang out together?)
Awesome photo 🙂
On Penn Lake last week, there was a group of 29 small Mergansers and 1 Great Blue Heron that frequented the bay near our site. They didn’t seem to be bothered by the other.
