A tremendous and short thunderstorm arrived at Lakes of the Clouds right at 6:15 as always predicted. It left trails of mist in the hills as the sun set. In the far right you can see a “through-hiker” sitting and looking at me. This guy had started in Georgia in March and, like most of the others wore flip flops, tuques and very short-shorts while not hiking. The guys all had incredibly bushy beards and long hair. ( It took me back to being a teenager). All the leftovers at the huts (and there were always leftovers as they cooked huge quantites of food for each meal) were saved for the through hikers, who often did the dishes or other chores in exchange for a hot meal and a common room floor to sleep on.
