Unlike most cyclists, I always stop at the little pond across from P8. Over the years near or in the pond I have seen beavers, otters, blue and green herons, mergansers, rabbits, raccoons, groundhogs, several types of turtle, and once, a “distancing” wolf from two meters away. Late this afternoon when I stopped, I just happened to look down. Right beside my foot, was the tiniest turtle! I almost stepped on him! I thought at first someone had dropped a small medallion. An inch in diameter! The photo makes him look larger than he is as I had ski gloves on. I carried the little guy to the warmest, sunniest spot near the pond where he was less apt to be squashed. He was quite alert once I picked him up – I hope he makes it. It was a cold day to be a turtle.
