For a change, a bigger lake than Gatineau Park can offer. Despite a long, hot day of sunny paddling, we managed to see only a portion of it! There are beautiful rocky islands, rugged shorelines and cliffs. However as beautiful a gem as this lake is, we found it a bit sterile. There were loons, seagulls and mergansers, but on our two beach stops we saw not so much as a squirrel or bird in the trees. There were no traces whatsoever of beavers, and no biological swampy bays. Worst of all, not a single heron! Canoeists from Ottawa- Gatineau will probably recognize this lake as Poisson Blanc.
