The Transit of Venus.  This was taken using a welders’s glass over the lens.  It was a memorable evening .  I finished teaching a bit early to try to catch the event before sunset, at the Blair Road boat ramp.   On the short drive there, a giant black cloud obscured all but a sliver of the sky – the sliver at the horizon, where the sun was.   The sunlight was just dazzling, as though concentrated and amplified in the narrow slit of open sky.    White aspen fluff was raining down on the river, and the scenery was awash in blinding, golden light.  At the exact instant the sun set, a deluge of rain began.  It was very dramatic.

What a fantastic photograph!! We had a very clear morning view of the transit in Australia, but this is just beautiful.
