I was happy to see this blue heron today. The birds and water birds are still around. Over the past few decades we’ve seen beavers, otters, lynx, foxes, bears, weasels, deer, raccoons, porcupines, etc, but this area now feels bereft of wildlife. We used to hear owls almost nightly, and wolves every August, now a rarer event. Hunting is a huge thing in the fall, but more than that, the tiny Municipality of Boileau doesn’t have the resources to catch the local year-round poacher(s). And of course, monster “cottages” with pavement or lawns are springing up like mushrooms, each with an accompanying new road which requires a personal and noisy all terrain vehicle. Too bad we can’t roll back the clock. Sigh.
