Everything was very icy this morning, and a very lonely looking attendant was at P8 telling skiers (if there were any – we saw none) not to pay. Rather than wearing ice grippers, we opted for a rather boring run on the bike lanes of Scott Road and Meech Lake Road where there was excellent traction. Sad.

I agree sad, very disapointing after last year’s great winter, I have always skied between Xmas and New Year’s this is a first not doing so in a very long time ……..
I agree…I’ve tried to stay positive but this “January thaw in December” has overtaxed my happy thoughts as well. I’m so bored that I’m actually going back to work tomorrow.
Sorry Paul – you’re remembering things better than they were. My memory is that xmas has always been an unsettled time. My memories are of fantastic conditions, glistening ice, marginal skiing, and no skiing with a bare park and open lakes. Over forty years, my earliest start for continuous skiing has been 8 Nov.; the latest, first week of January. Jean Gruslin, when he was in charge of the Keskinada course, was always full-fetal with worry that there wouldn’t be enough snow for for the loppet – there was always enough.
Hi Ron,
Do you remember the winter of 1979-80? I was looking at some historical data and there was very little snow on the ground for most of the winter (see http://tinyurl.com/ppuaa8q).
Thanks, Matt.
