A photo from last week’s star gazing during the Perseid meteor shower. This was a 24 12 minute exposure (f 2.8, ISO 400). There seems to be one meteor visible in the lower right corner.
There are some nifty tricks I read about, but I always forget them! This is what I do: I use a fast lens with a 2.8 aperture, and often an ultrawide because it focusses so well (hard to focus in the dark!)and usually I start by dialing in the very highest ISO the camera is cabable of, so that the photo doesn’t take very long. A few quick tries and maybe a 5 second photo at ISO 12,000 will look really grainy and crappy but you can see if the light is basically correct. If it looks reasonable, the next… Read more »
How do you choose an exposure time for a shot like that?
