I skied Burma (#3) on Saturday, Jan 29 for the first time this year as the Gatineau website listed it as being groomed a couple of days earlier and had assigned it a green checkmark. While I enjoyed skiing it I was not overly surprised to see that there was no sign of grooming. Drainage ditches were evident at the bottom of a couple of hills and the hills were heavily dished and scraped from skiers. The trail wasn’t wide enough to allow skating up most of the hills. I completely agree. For the moment I am encouraging friends without season’s passes to ski first and pay when they finish – but only if conditions are reasonable.

I agree with you about the quality of Classic/skates maintenance. Skate lane unleveled, skinny classic track…. But sadly I live in the Hautes Plaines, just by Chelsea and I just went outside: I have exactly 7 cm of snow on the ground in my backyard, when using snowshoes, so NCC has a point…. In the past we had quite often a lot of ice on the base, which Lafleur could grind and mix with fresh snow. I don’t think they can with the base we have now. I skied down Burma Jan 27th. While there were no exposed rocks, the trail was quite uneven and certainly hadn’t been groomed. There were sections with small bumps on only one side of the trail and other sections with weird undulations, so the ski took my full attention and I didn’t find it nearly as fun as Burma always was. The deep drainage ditches Peter mentions are a problem, especially on the hills when passing oncoming skiers. Talking about ditches, what about the ones at Khyber Pass? Whose bright idea was it to ‘fix’ the trail? I saw two skiers… Read more »
