
A nice surprise to see a deer along the shoreline, where they often used to browse before The Great Slaughter. (A few years ago American sharpshooters were hired to exterminate all the deer in the region so that they could be tested, in case any had the wasting disease found on a deer farm. None had it. )

Shocking!! That probably accounts for the cautious gaze in your direction. What is the plant with the berries? Are they edible?
I think it is catberry, Ilex Mucronata, a type of mountain holly. It’s apparently bitter but not toxic.
