Have you seen the signs posted on the bird feeders in the Gatineau Park? This is the last year they will be feeding the birds, citing the necessity for the Park to be natural and for the birds not to be accustomed to human intervention. Bird feeding at the cabins has been going on for about 40+ years now. This is really sad and is something that will be missed.
I also was sad to see that. When you think of how much humans negatively impact birds…with our pesticides, housing developments, roaming cats, highrises at night….
Do you think this is a cost-cutting measure?

Everyone in group I was skiing with felt it was cost-cutting. And when we think of last summer’s drought where people were encouraged to keep feeding the birds all summer because they were so malnourished – I only hope they are far better off in the Park.
