January 30, 2011:

Yesterday Janey and I headed 2 hours north, to the Petawawa Forest,  to ski with my friend Joan and her ski buddies.  It turned out to be both the most beautiful ski of the year and one of  the most companionable.  I’m not the best back country skier (understatement) but it was a most inspiring day.  Thank you Joan, for inviting us, for ordering all that fresh snow, and for taking this photo.  The ecstatic skiers are Janey (in red), and me.

What an truly amazing day, well worth the drive. Luckily we had great guides in the woods as I had not the faintest indea of where we were going . Fabulous new snow had just fallen and we skied through enchanting glades and little narrow trails. Lunch was had by a table over looking a very picturesque lake and a tea kettle boiling over an open pit fire – the whole day was just magic.
