Volunteers handing out wet sponges a few blocks from the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau.  (are the 1000’s of sponges just tossed out afterwards?)

Hi Jo-Ann;

Hope you had a good run on Saturday night. Saw a few SOFIT shirts in the start corals but didn’t see you. Yes the sponges are tossed after the race. They’d need to be cleaned and dried to be reused which isn’t really feasible. On a plus note we have now contracted with Cascade to recycle all the cups used… so trying to work towards a greener event.

I’m so glad to hear the cups are recycled, hopefully the orange and banana peels are too. Could you get a couple of water trucks to avoid all the water bottles? We need to come up with a solution to the sponges.

Thank you so much to all the VOLUNTEERS. it would not be nearly as much fun without the the funky bands, cheering crowds, neat kids cheering for mums and dads, water people, sponge handlers and photo takers. I reckon that the runners do the fun bit. BIG BIG thank you it was a really fun run.
