The skiing was good, and freshly groomed on the Kingsmere trails and parkways. Sorry, I forgot to take a ski photo.
Seeing a chipmunk in January is very unusual, particularly in cold weather. We have 2 who are single mindedly gobbling up the bird seed leftovers and peanuts – and they are not storing anything away, simply eating. They must be starving. With the dry summer the oak trees didn’t produce many acorns this summer – we are usually inundated with them for weeks.

Wow, this is indeed unusual. I used to study chipmunks. This guy should be semi-dormant in his underground burrow, with a store-room full of snacks. It’s not mild weather – I wonder what has happened. Perhaps the burrow got destroyed. With all those up-rooted trees, there could have been underground damage. They do like acorns, but will normally store lots of other seeds and grains as well, so it’s not likey just the oak trees causing this. Glad you are providing food. Chipmunks are lovely little animals.
