My admiration for these amazing birds has increased, as they have thighs like Tour de France riders!! They must work hard under the water.

Lorraine! You are so funny! I doubt they work hard under the water. Like beavers, they can travel huge distances quickly under water, usually resurfacing far from where they were last seen.

It’s a cormorant. The wings are the wrong shape for a loon.

There were two flying by and they were calling to each other – loon calls.
