Today 4 of them exploded after some noisy yodeling – spinning their wheels vigourously enough to be completely out of the water for several seconds – more energetic and brief than the usual, long runway take-offs. Are these sprints intended to build fitness for the migration or for battling for a mate? Such interesting birds!
