(Turn on your speakers!) Well this was exciting! Loki and I were enjoying an early run on the Visitor Center loop on Monday when this canid chorus started vocalizing VERY close by! We couldn’t see them for the trees. I am still amazed that I managed to get the phone out in time. They never sing for long! The photo is not really related to the howl, but I couldn’t figure out how to post the sound clip without attaching it to a photo.

Coyotes or wolves? Does anyone know?
According to David Suzuki all our “wolves” are hybrids that he refers to as “Coywolves”. I’ve seen them 4 times in the park and once at the aviation museum in Ottawa. Whatever they officially are, they are beautiful, big, healthy looking things. I wouldn’t want my dog to meet up with them! The recording didn’t really do them justice. There were additional tenors and basses that seemed to get scrubbed out along with the background wind sounds.
Did Loki react at all?
Loki did not react although he was clearly paying attention to it.
