Beautiful!
Let me speculate on the perch.
An angle bracket with an eye at the end.
The eye formerly screwed into a wooden feeder.
A wooden feeder upon which a racoon’s weight caused the feeder to pull out the eye.
The repair implemented with a carabiner whose cost rivals that of the bracket, eye and feeder combined.
You are right except that there are no “formerlies” or raccoons, not so much as a squirrel. Finches love Niger seed ($) but mammals have no interest in it. It sounds like YOU may have a more interesting story at your bird feeder!
Actually, yes. A bear helped itself to a feeder at the cottage once, bending pretzel-like the aluminum pole upon which the feeder sat and dumping the contents on the deck. The feeder was busted up some too.
