What an interesting shot – I have never seen this – I wonder what happened that someone wanted to carve a cross. Maybe it is a pet grave site – anyway looks really neat in this rather mysterious lighting.
There are two others that I know of in the park and this is the time of year they are most visible. They really make you stop and think.
In my memory they appeared during the post ice-storm clean-up. I assumed that someone on the clean-up crew had a penchant for showing his/her prowess with a chain saw by carving these symbols to finish off the bigger stumps. There was one beside #40, but I think that the cross may be broken off now.

It looks like the same “artist”. I didn’t know about that one. So that makes at least 4 of them, then, but two of them look more like personal memorials.
