Heron with breeding plumage, basking in the late afternoon sun and paying no attention to the kayak. I think this heron recognizes me from previous years.
Did it say gidday??
It looks like it is in full plumage, but late summer could not be the breeding period, could it?
Don’t the adults molt in late summer? Their kids fledged only a few weeks ago.
