Our admirable, national,submersible rodent with early evening reflections, and a gentle background buzzing of blackflies – taken a couple of nights ago.
They are beautiful, very fast swimmers, and can swim 10K an hour and stay submergeed for up to 15 minutes (I just looked this up!). This was the actual speed, however I zoomed in to maximum as soon as I saw him – perhaps 100 meters away – and he swam completely past me before doing his dive, so the zoom may have given an exaggerated feel to his speed. I deleted the first few seconds of the video as he was so far away. The top photo is from the start of the video, before zooming.
